Given:

Quantity of 60% v/v alcohol=600 ml

To find:

The quantity of 70% and 30% v/v alcohols

Solution:

We know that the quantity of each alcohol can be obtained by using the concept of alligation.

The ratio of the quantities of the 70% v/v alcohol and 30% v/v alcohol to make 60 ml of 60% v/v alcohol is as follows-

The ratio of 30% v/v alcohol to 70% v/v alcohol=(70-60):(60-30)

=10: 30

=1: 3

Now, the total quantity of 60% v/v soolution=600ml

Out of this 600ml, the quantity of 30% v/v alcohol=1/4×600

=150 ml

The quantity of 70% v/v alcohol=3/4×600

=450 ml

Therefore, 600ml of 60% v/v alcohol will be prepared by adding 450ml
