There was a large scale participation of women in the civil disobedience movement during Gandhiji salt march, thousands of women came out of their homes to listen to him.

They participated in protest images, manufactured salt, and picketed foreign clothes and liquor shops many went to Jail.in urban areas these women wear from high caste families and in rural areas they came from rich person households.

They saw the service to the nation as a sacred duty of them but does not increase their public role.Gandhiji was of opinion that it was the duty of women to look after the home be good wives and mothers.

For a long time the Congress was reluctant to allow women to hold any position of authority within the organisation it was keen only on their symbolic presence.
