Woody stem transpires with the help of lenticles which are tiny openings that protrudes stem. this type of transpiration is signifucant in plants under very dry conditions.

The rate of transpiration in this case is very low as compared to stomatal transpiration. This type of transpiration can therfore led to dessication of trees.

Transpiration is the process where water is evaporated through the open pores of the plant. These open pores include stomatal pores and lenticels. Stomatal pores are on the surface of the leaf whereas the lenticels are on the surface of the bark of the tree, which do not close.
