How do you add 8√5−10√15 ?

These terms are subtract actually according to the question

8 \sqrt{5} - 10 \sqrt{3 \times 5} \\ \\ = > \: \: 8 \sqrt{5} - 10 \sqrt{3} \sqrt{5} \\ \\ = > \: \: 2 \sqrt{5} (4 - 5 \sqrt{3} ) \\ \\
this cannot be solve further, without putting the values of √5 and √3.

Hope it helps you

hey mate

here is your answer...

Answer:

only like surds can be added or subtracted.

like surds:surds having same radicand and same order of magnitude/surd.

for example:

2√2+6√2

=8√2

but

8√5-10√15

these are like surds

now,

if ⁿ√a is any surd, then a is radicand and n is order/magnitude of surd.√ sign is called radical sign and surds are also called radical.

surd:an irrational number in the form of ⁿ√a where n≥2 and a is a positive rational number.

all surds are irrational number but all irrational number are not surds.
