how do you add and subtract algebraic expressions??

If their degrees and variables are same then you can subtract the algebric experssion
ex-
x^2 - 2x^2
just let the variable intact and do operate their values
so x^2 will be there along with 1-2= -1
thereforee
-x^2 is the answer.

You can add or subtract algebraic expressions when the two expression s are either variables or constants . In case of one variable and one constant you cannot add or subtract them.
