Cattle means the domestic or farm based animals mostly the cows, buffaloes, ox, oxen..

They are very useful as they eat grass and so keep the fields sort of open and controlled.  They give milk which is essential for all people. They do work in the agricultural fields for ploughing the fields. They do help in transport too as there are bullock carts. They also are used in sports and competitions in rural areas.

Many religious beliefs are prevalent around cows. They are the most sacred animals in India. They are worshipped. Their meat is eaten by non-vegetarians.  Their skin is used for making slippers or other materials. Perhaps some oil is also extracted from their meat/muscles after their death.

Cattle were one of the reasons civilizations earlier to 19th century flourished.
