When no electrons excceds 4 then we have to use the formula
VALENCY= 8-NO OF ELECTRONS
(that is 5,6...)
For example,
Sodium 11 that is (2,8,1)
Valency = 1
CL 17 (2,8,7)
Valency = 8 - no of elctrons
That is 8-7=1
Valency =1
