The festival Makar Sankranti is in reference to God Sun. The festival is celebrated on 14th of January every year. The significance of this festival is the transit of Sun into the makara that depicts the end of Winter solstice. We celebrate it by kite flying throughout India and also fairs and bonfires.
Infact Makar Sankranti is the very first festival in the New Year.
The Delhites celebrate it by having churma of ghee, halwa and kheer.
The Punjabis go for early river bath and also light lamps with seasame oil.
