Aim - To study electroplating.

Method- Take 2 copper plates and dip them in a copper sulphate solution (distilled water crystals of copper sulphate+ few drops of sulphuric acid). Connect these plates with the terminals of a battery. Allow current to pass for 15 min. and observe the plate carefully.

Observation - a layer of copper is deposited on the copper plate connected to the negative terminal of the battery which is observed as a reddish brown layer.

Result - Electroplating has been studied.

Explanation - When electric current is passed through the copper and sulphate, the copper sulphate disscolates into copper and sulphate. The free copper gets drawn to the electrode connected to the negative terminal of the battery and gets deposited.
