3  \frac{1}{3}  + ( \frac{ - 7}{4} ) \\  \\  =  \frac{10}{3}  -  \frac{7}{4}  \\  \\  =  \frac{40 - 21}{12}  =  \frac{19}{12}

3 1/3 can also be written as 10/3

therefore, 10/3 + -7/4

lcm(3,4) = 12

10/3*4/4  = 40/12

-7/4*3/3 = -21/12

---------->     40/12 + (-21/12)

                 = 40 - 21 / 12

                 = 19/12
