How do you factor completely p2−2p+1−y2−2yz−z2?

p²-2p+1-y²-2yz-z²

=(p²-2p+1)-(y²+2yz+z²)

= (p²-2*p*1+1²)-(y²+2*y*z+z²)

= (p-1)²-(y+z)²

= [(p-1)+(y+z)][(p-1)-(y+z)]

=(p-1+y+z)(p-1-y-z)

= (p+y+z-1)(p-y-z-1)

Therefore,

p²-2p+1-y²-2yz-z²

=(p+y+z-1)(p-y-z-1)
