His "friend," as he refers to her, is really his distant cousin and we know a lot about her thanks to his bountiful descriptions.
On page one we learn that she is in her sixties, has hunched shoulders due to an illness when she was younger, and that,
"Her face is remarkable- not unlike Lincoln's, craggy like that, and tinted by sun and wind; but it is delicate too, finely boned, and her eyes are sherry-cored and timid" (Capote).
We also know that she "is still a child." What he means by this is that she is mentally much younger than her physical age. He is only eight years old and they are each other's best friends. She acts very much like a child, which is what makes her so lovable and so easily relatable.
