How do you find the number of electrons in an element?

we can find it knowing the no. of electrons in the outermost shell.

for eg: if the no. of electrons in the outermost shell is 2 and the element has a total of 2 shells , then the no. of electrons is 4 because the maximum no. of electrons in the first shell is 2.
