So much of the answer to this question depends on the circumstances and the person whom you have decided is weaker than you.
To be helpful, one must figure out what the person’s needs are and what one can do to meet those needs before offering to help.
The easiest way to do this, at least as a start, is to ask the person how you can help. This may result in your being able to help or in finding someone who can provide better assistance than you.
