According to the narrative poem, The Tale of Custard the Dragon, the appearance of the pirate was quite ruthless.

His woody legs, his pistol in hand, his savage teeth and above all his body language was deciphering his intention, which seemed to be weird and not friendly.

His appearance was dangerous and that is why the poet has said “the pirate meant no good”.
