You can understand the tense of the word either by looking at the words before it or the word itself.
For Example:
For Continuous Tense
She was waiting. ('was' which is past)
She is waiting. ( 'is' which is present)
she will be waiting. ( 'will be' which is future)
For Simple Tense
She waited. ('ed' at the end which is past)
She waits. ( 's' which is present)
She will wait. ( 'will' which is future.)
Then there are a few words which change like
Present tense Past tense
eat ate
fly flew
buy bought
bring brought
