Anti-meridian is 180° longitude which is at the other side of Prime Meridian (on the 0° of the longitude on the imaginary circle on earth). Together with Prime Meridian it divides the Earth into Western and Eastern Hemisphere. It is used as the basis for the International Date Line because it for the most part passes through the open waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Note:- The word is often confused with the word ante-meridiam (am). Both words are taken from Latin word "meridies" meaning 'midday' which gave both the terms.
