Zinc oxide will react with hydrochloric acid to form zinc chloride and water. Zinc oxide is only sparingly soluble in water so best option is to add zinc oxide to diluted hydrochloric acid. Zinc chloride is soluble so you will see the zinc oxide dissolve when it has all reacted. You will then need to evaporate some water and form a saturated solution of zinc chloride. Let it crystallise, filter and recystallise again to purify if required. What scale are you working on? be careful of excessive heat generation on a larger scale.
