Counselors are responsible for working with students who need help managing their behavior, keeping up academically, or planning for the future. Counselors also work with administrators, teachers, and parents to develop a comfortable, healthy school environment free of bullying or illegal activities.

Counselor is a professional who give suggestions or guidance on any behavioral or psychological issues. A counselor guides the counselee right from the beginning till the end. They identify the root cause of the issue, then through their skills, the problem is solved through verbal conversations or medications. Following are the roles and functions of a counselor:-

  • Counselor directs the whole procedure right from analyzing the problem and the plan of action to the final solution of the problem. Thus no time and energy of the counselee is unnecessarily wasted in thinking over the possible solution or plan of action for his problem.
  • After the careful and systematic analysis of the problem the counselor engages himself in the search for the ways and means of finding solution of the problem. With the help of his experience, education and professional skills, he arrives at a solution.
  • Counselor behaves like a planner, director or administrator dictating and directing the counselee in particular direction and path for the solution of his problem.
  • The wholesome purpose of counselling in terms of the desired modification of the behaviour and development of proper independent problem solving ability and adjustment capacities.
