a - 7a - 10 = 103

- 6a - 10 = 103

- 6a = 103 + 10

- 6a = 113

a =  \frac{113}{-6}

a =  \frac{-113}{6}

a =  \frac{\cancel{-113}}{\cancel{6}}

 \fbox{\bold{\mathsf{a = - 18.8\:(approx)}}}

But is this value is correct? Let's check out!

Verification:

Substituting a = - 18.8 in the given equation.

a - 7a - 10 = 103

-18.8 - 7(-18.8) - 10 = 103

-18.8 + 131.6 - 10 = 103

112.8 - 10 = 103

102.8 = 103

Rounding 102.8 to the nearest 10,

103 = 103

 \fbox{\bold{\mathsf{\therefore a = 18.8\:(approx)}}}
