How do you solve by substitution −x+2y=−6 and 3x+y=8?

Answer:

-x+2y=-6

x=2y+6...........1

3x+y=8

3(2y+6)+y=8 [from 1]

6y+18+y=8

7y=-10

y=-10/7

Subs y in 1

x=-20/7 +6

X=(-20+42)/7=22/7

2y= -6+ x

y= x-6/ 2_____(i)

3x+ y= 8_____(ii)

SUBSTITUTING THE VALUE OF (i) IN (ii);

3x+ (x-6/2)=8

6x+ x-6/2= 8  (by taking LCM in left hand side)

7x- 6= 16

7x= 16+6

x= 22/7

PUTTING THE VALUE x IN (i);

y= 22/7-6/2

y= -10/7
