In elimination methods one of the coefficients of the given equations are made equal and then are added or subtracted to get the value x or y.
FOR EXAMPLE;
Let us take two equations;
x+ y= 2_____(i)
and, 2x- 3y= 5______(ii)
Now multiplying (i) equation by 2 and (ii) by 1 so as to obtain 2 with x coefficients.
x+ y= 2_____ × 2 ⇒ 2x+ 2y= 4
2x- 3y= 4____× 1 ⇒ 2x- 3y= 5
Now we will use elimination method..
2x+ 2y= 4
-2x- 3y= 5 (2x and 5 will become negative and -3y will become positive)
___________
-5y = -1
y= 1/5
Now put the value of y in (i) equation and u can obtain the value of x.
