take x = 1 and and substitute in eq 6y + 3x=18

6y+ 3(1)=18

6y +3 =18

6y = 18 - 3

6y = 15

Y = 15/6 = 5/2

now take Y = 5/2 and substitute in -x + 4y =24

-×+4 ( 5/2) = 24

-x +4 = 24 ×2÷5

-x = 10 - 4

-x = 6

shift the terms

X = 6
