Heya,
Indicators are generally used to indicate whether a substance is acidic or basic.
Some of the common indicators are litmus paper, methyl orange, phenophthalene.
For example:- When you place a litmus paper in an acidic solution it turns blue litmus paper to red indication that it is an acid.
When you place it in a basic solution it turns red litmus paper to blue which indicates that it is a base.

By indicator (litmus paper)
if the solution turns red litmus paper into blue then it is a basic solution and if remain same then it is an acid.
If the solution change blue litmus into red then it is an acid but if remain same then it is a basic solution
if the solution turns red litmus paper into blue then it is a basic solution and if remain same then it is an acid.
