Invert the test tube full of water and cover the stem of the funnel. While placing the test tube, ensure that the level of the water in beaker is above the level of stem of funnel. Expose the apparatus to the sunlight. After few hours, gas bubbles will form and collect in the test tube.

Explanation:-

Take two beakers filled with water. Add a few crystals of Sodium Bicarbonate to both. Place Hydrilla plants in both the beakers and inverted large funnels over them.

Take two test tubes, place small pieces of steel wool into three bottoms. Fill the test tubes with water and invert them over the narrow ends of each of the funnel places one of the beaker in a bright sunny area and the other through in the dark cupboard for about 48 hours.

Test the gas collected in the test tubes by introducing burning splinters, it burns brightly due to the presence of Oxygen.

So, you can conclude that the gas released in Hydrilla funnel experiment is "Oxygen".
