Discipline acts as a key feature in democracy because success can only be achieved through hard work and discipline. In contrast to what a little successful democracy achieves, a successful democracy is always created through discipline and tries to solve issues which don't have a direct effect on it. All these traits can only exist in a democracy if discipline co-exists with it.
Example
The United States of America has always intervened in world issues which don't affect it. It continues this system by currently planning airstrikes on militants in Syria and actively raising the issue of the downing of MH17 in Ukraine.
