Answer:

When the pilot was flying towards his home in Dakota, suddenly he was surrounded by a storm. As his plane moved inside the dark clouds, his compass stopped working and he was not able to see anything. Even his radio was not working and he was not able to contact ground control. Then suddenly, he saw another plane flying in front of him. The other pilot asked him to follow his lead. He turned his aeroplane slowly to the north, in front of the author’s Dakota, so that it would be easier for the author to follow him. He was very happy to go behind the strange aeroplane like an obedient child. After half an hour the strange black aeroplane was still there in front of him in the clouds. After a while, there was only enough fuel in the old Dakota’s last tank to fly for five or ten minutes more. The author started to feel frightened again. But then the other pilot started to go down and he followed through the storm. Suddenly, he came out of the clouds and saw two long straight lines of lights in front of himself. It was the runway of an airport. Finally the author was safe and he could enjoy with his family. He turned to look for his friend in the black aeroplane, but the sky was empty. The black aeroplane had suddenly disappeared. After landing, the author asked a woman sitting in the control room about the other pilot. Surprisingly she said that there was no aeroplane flying in the sky other than the author’s plane.

Explanation:

It was no one but the narrator himself who helped him to reach safely. He must be just hallucinating that there was someone to help him. The woman at the control center could see his plane only on the radar, and no other plane was flying in the sky at that time.
