• As they lost their ZAMINDARI if the revenue was not paid to the British under the permanent settlement. This is the big reason ZAMINDARS were reluctant to invest in the land.

• The ZAMINDARS wanted to collect as much as revenue as they wanted

For example if the British asked for rupees 500 as the revenue from a particular land the zamindars would take double or triple the amout such from the peasants. Later on they would give the amount asked by the british and keep the rest with themselves.

This would increase the Zamindar's income
