I think that the practice of dowry can be discouraged by followings ways-
1. The government should make strict laws against dowry.
2. The government should take strict actions against people who follow dowry.
3. The citizens should not go into marriages who followed dowry.
4. We the citizens of India should protest against dowry.

dowry system and widow remarriage were two social evils that existed in India during 19 the century. the British government pass an act ,which allow Hindu widow to remarry .lord billiam Bentinck has also important role in ending dowry system.
