For a fire fuel, oxygen and heat are needed forming the fire triangle, removal of any of these will result in the removal of the fire. The blanket will cover the fire and prevent oxygen from getting to it so that the fire cannotburn. What little oxygen is trapped under the fire blanket will quickly turn tocarbon dioxide as the fire burns out.

when we cover fire with blanket the blanket doesn't allow to pass oxygen and convert oxygen into carbon dioxide. hence the blanket helps in extinguishing fire
