Answer:
There are 2 methods in which a farmer can irrigate his fields.
1. Traditional Method :In this method, irrigation is done manually. Farmers pull out water from lakes, wells or canals manually and then it is transferred to the farming fields. This method of irrigation is cheap but it is lesser efficient than modern methods used.
1. Dhekli
2. Moat
3. Chain pump
4. Rahat
2. Modern method
1. Sprinkler System
The sprinkler system of irrigation is more useful for the uneven land where sufficient water is not available. It is also very useful for the sandy soil. In this system a main pipe line is laid in the fields. Perpendicular pipes having rotating nozzles at the top are joined in the main pipeline at regular intervals. When water from a tube well is allowed to flow through the main pipeline with the help of a pump, it escapes from the rotating nozzles. The water gets sprinkled on the crop plants as if it is raining.
Drip System
In this system there is a network of narrow pipes with small holes in the fields. When water falls through the narrow pipes, it falls drop by drop at the position of roots of the plants. This water is absorbed by the soil in the root area of the plants and is utilized by the plants. This is the most efficient method of irrigation as there is no wastage of water at all. This method is important in areas where water availability is poor. This system is the best technique for watering fruit plants, trees and gardens.
In the places which have lack of water , i would use Drip system because in this system water falls drop by drop on the position of the roots thus no water is wasted
