how does a fuse wire protect electrical appliances

The fuse breaks the circuit if a fault in an appliance causes too much current flow. This protects the wiring and the appliance if something goes wrong.

If heavy current flows through the wire, the fuse that has a low melting point melts and breaks the circuit and thence electrical appliances are safe.
