A lighting conductor consist of a thick metal rod with spikes at the top of the building such that the spiked ends point upwards. The bottom end of the road is connected to a copper plate burried deep under the earth.
A lighting conductor provides a low resistance path to the flow of charges. Therefore, during a lighting, electric charges will flow through the lightening conductor to the earth and not through the building.
