Answer:

Here is required answer.

Explanation:

Lottery is a very famous short story, written in Hindi, by Munshi Premchand. It was published in the year 1933. The story takes humorous narrative as it focuses how swiftly a human nature can change with avaricious aspirations.

With an aim to build the largest library in the city, young boy Vikram, plans to buy a ticket to try his luck. Failing short of money to buy the ticket, he joins hands with his childhood friend who happens to be a school teacher.

Vikram sells off his old books to buy the ticket while half of the ticket money was given by his teacher friend, but Vikram buys the ticket in his name. Meanwhile, Vikram’s father buys a lottery for his son and wife.

Finding that Vikram’s father would not share the prize money with other family members, Vikram’s uncle also buys a lottery ticket. Despite being firm atheists, Vikram’s father and uncle started fasting and praying along with visiting local temples to increase their winning chances by pleasing the God.

In the end, contrary to the expectations, none of them won the lottery ticket. The result realised them that none of them had any chance to win the ticket. The play highlights that there is no shortcut to money and success.

In society, people get superstitious in order to get money and success easily, but end up with nothing. The play depicted that religious faith is just manifestation of human greed and hypocrisy.

The play ended on a moral message — Lottery is a gamble of luck and it distorts human behavior and relations
