how does a person exercise his rights in a democracy

if a person exercise his or her right in democracy because it is the people who rule the government directly or indirectly through elections. people vote their representatives so that they can take decision for the people. if people are not given any rights it is called non democratic country. even if people do not get the right in a democratic country people can do protest ,rally etc to accept their demand and government will have to accept the demand of the people
