how does a photon have momentum but no mass?

mihirthemega: because at the speed of light, the mass of any particle (including photon) is not constant and is negligible
blaze995091: then how does it have momentum?

the momentum and mass for PHOTON is possible, BUT only when it is MOVING.
So basically a photon have 0 REST mass, but can have nonzero MOVING mass.

Hope it helps

blaze995091: hey but photon are never at rest?
blaze995091: photons *
blaze995091: the question is how can a photon have no mass but momentum bcuz p=mv?
AdiK1needy: yes that's why a photon can have a moving mass which is equivalent to its energy
AdiK1needy: but zero rest mass
blaze995091: E²=(mc²) +(pc) ²
blaze995091: this is correct.. not E=mc². it is actually incomplete
AdiK1needy: understand my answer what I am saying is about rest and moving masses
blaze995091: the moving mass of photon is still zero
AdiK1needy: no its not apply de Broglie principle
