A technical report or a scientific report is a document which describes the process, progress or results of scientific or technical research or the state of a scientific or technical research problem. It may also include the conclusions and recommendations of the research.
While a position paper is an essay which puts forth an opinion about an issue, particularly that of an author or some specific entity. It is published in politics, in academia and in law. Usually, the opinion put forward in such a document is substantiated with an evidence.
