how does a tubelight glow(work)?

A tubelight works by ionizing the mercury vapor in a glass tube. This causes electron in the gas to emit protons at ultraviolet frequencies. The ultraviolet light is then converted into standard visible light using a phosphor coating on the inside of the tube.
