HEY MATE HERE IS YOUR ANSWER:

A Van de Graaff generator is an electrostatic generator which uses a moving belt to accumulate electric charge on a hollow metal globe on the top of an insulated column, creating very high electric potentials. It produces very high voltage direct current (DC) electricity at low current levels.

Van de Graff’s generator works on the following two principles which are explained below:

1. There is one charged conductor and one hollow conductor, if we bring these two in contact with each other internally then charge gets transferred to the hollow conductor. Because charges travel from high potential to low potential.

2. If a conductor has sharp points and it is charged then the charge gets large density over those sharp points which in turn ionizes the air around it and leakage of charges takes place. This is corona discharge.
