Air bag instantly pops out to full size as the car halts(that is even before you can make contact with it)

When you are about to hit it it has already slowed down its nearly at its max length so that the airbag doesn't hurt (trust me it can)

So you can now safely land on it and your momentum is dispersed onto it.
