Amoeba has an irregular structure so, it can elongate any of it's part. When it has to absorb any food, it elongates one of it's sides which is called pseudopodia or false feet. These are so produced that they go and surround the food particle and slowly it pushes itself towards the food and fills that place and the food get absorbed in the body.

Amoeba acquires its food through endocytosis. Endocytosis refers to invagination of a small region of the plasma membrane and ultimately forming an intracellular membrane bound vesicle. This process is generally involved in the ingestion of food material. Intake of liquid food using endocytosis is called pinocytosis or cell drinking. Similarly intake of solid particles by a cell through its cell membrane is called phagocytosis or Cell eating. In this process cell membrane put up protoplasmic processes around the food particle. The processes join, fuse to form phagosome.
