how does animals and plants survive in water even when not in direct contact with air

they survive in water becuse water is made up from hydrojen and oxygen and oxygen is presen in water fish take oxygen by gills
and plant take oxygen by osmosis

Aquatic plants and Animals take up dissolved Oxygen directly from the water. They are adapted to live in such conditions.
