Our skin works like an insulator in cold. Skin isn't a good conductor of heat. It doesn't allow the heat transfer. Hence preventing the loss of heat from the body. Just like a thermos flask.

Subhikshamurari: But the answer is because of Vasoconstriction. Vasoconstriction is the construction or contraction of the veins. We know that blood maintains the body temperature as it flows through the body. So, when the flow of blood is more, heat is lost from the body. And that is why we sweat. This is due to Vasodilation. On the other hand, Vasoconstriction is the opposite. So, this is how excessive heat loss is prevented.
Subhikshamurari: *constriction ( second line)
ScientistKhushi: But adipose tissue also acts as an insulator
ScientistKhushi: I can't edit my answer. I'm unable to do it. Thanks for telling me about vasoconstriction ^_^
Subhikshamurari: I'm not sure about that, but this is what I studied
Subhikshamurari: My pleasure
chick1233: thank u guys for the answer
ScientistKhushi: It is given in the book of class 9 (NCERT). I've studied it last year
ScientistKhushi: about the adipose tissue
chick1233: thanks its justified

Adipose tissue present in the subcutaneous tissue prevents heat loss from body during severe cold.
hope this helps
