When arragon discovers that he had made the wrong choice, at the first place he was as unable to believe that he deserved a blinking idiot and not portia.

He said that there is a fool's head and a schedule. neither of it resembled portia. being disappointed he even asks if those were only his deservings.

He then reads the scroll. He tells portia that it would be better for him to leave her since he would present to be bigger fool if he waits anymore. He came with one head of a fool but goes with two.

This shows that arragon was unaware of his true cognitive ability and he expected himself to deserve a lot which he didn't. he was also a person who could not believe on his apparent bad luck and wanted it to be altered.
