How does atomic size vary along the group?Give reason

Atomic size increase bz no of shell increase when we go up to down in a group

Hey there!!!
This is Aishwary

The atomic sizes increases down the group , this is bcoz new shells are being added as we go down the group this increases the distance b/w the outermost electrons and the nucleus so that atomic size increases inspite of the increase in nuclear charge


For ex -

Group - 1 Atomic radii ( pm)
Li. 152
Na 186
K 231

Here u can see it is varying from smallest to biggest atome , and atomic size increase on going down a group
