It occurs during favourable conditions.

It takes place mostly during unfavourable conditions.

It gives rise to two individuals.

Cytoplasm divides after each nuclear division.

Cytoplasm does not divide after every nuciear division.

Example: Euglena divides by binary fission.

Example: Plasmodium divides by multiple fission.
