Destruction of forests and wildlife has affected the livelihood of many communities who are directly dependent on forests.

(ii) They depend on forests for their food, medicine, drink, livelihood and cultural traits.

(iii) In certain societies women are involved in fuel collection, fodder for animals and water for their basic needs. Due to large scale deforestation these forest products are not available to them and the life of these people, especially women is largely affected.

(iv) Women have to go in search of food, water, fuel over long distances leaving their family for a long time resulting in social tensions.

(v) It has resulted in severe droughts and floods which has affected these communities very badly. These people live in extreme poverty which is the direct result of the environmental degradation. Conservation of forests and wildlife is essential to provide better quality of life and environment.

Explanation:

  • Because many indigenous and other communities that rely on the forest have been rapidly marginalised and impoverished as a result of biological losses.
  • And because these communities directly depend on different elements of the forest and wildlife for food, culture, and drink, there is a correlation between the biological loss of the forest and wildlife and the loss of cultural diversity.
  • They sell goods like honey and lac in addition to consuming forest products.
  • They lose their means of subsistence and their primary water source as a result of deforestation.
  • Hunting small game is still a way of life for many tribal tribes.
  • Their way of life is impacted by the disappearance of wildlife.

Consequences:

  • When forests are cut down or even just disturbed, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are released.
  • Around 10% of global warming is due to forest loss and destruction.
  • If we don't put an end to deforestation, there is just no way that we can combat the climate issue.
