Gases like carbon dioxide and oxygen cross the membrane by the process of diffusion. They tend to move from the region of higher concentration to that of lower concentration. More water concentration outside the cell than inside will mean that water will flow in and vice versa.

by the diffusion process from region of higher concentration to lower concentration through semi permeable membrane.
