It is correct that colour helps an animal to protect themselves. This is because body colour gets submerged or camouflaged with their surroundings and help them to hide from predators or to find its prey.
For eg- a lion hides in dry long grass to catch its prey
A deer hides in long grass to protect itself from the predator.

their color help them in camouflaging  from other animals or help them attack
without their prey noticing it for example a cheetah can be hardly seen when it hides behind the bushes just ready to catch its prey its pattern and skin color help it to hide
