Hey Mate

Communalism is the problem faced when religion is seen as the basis of the nation. The problems become more acute when religion is seen in partisan terms.

Communalism can take various forms in politics. They are:

•The most common expression of communalism is in everyday beliefs. For example:

>It involves religious prejudices.

>Stereotypes of religious communities.

>The belief that one religion is superior over the other.

•A communal mind often leads to a quest for political dominance of one's own religious community. For example, Majoritarian government in Sri Lanka.

•Political mobilisation on religious lines is another frequent form of  Communalism. For example, the use of sacred symbols, religious leaders, emotional appeal and plain fear in order to bring the followers of one religion together in the political arena.

•Communalism takes its most ugliest form of communal violence, riots and massacres. For example, massacres during the partition of India and Pakistan.
